Blessed Miguel Pro

In Guadalupe, Mexico
in 1891
Miguel Pro was born,
full of humor and fun.

Miguel was a sickly child,
the Blessed Mother interceded,
she called him to the priesthood.
Just what Mexico needed!

At the time in Mexico
Catholics were persecuted,
forced into hiding,
God’s Word was refuted.

Pro brought the Sacraments
to people on the sly.
Eluding the officers,
police always nearby.

To make an example
of this holy man
the government officials
hatched an evil plan.

They accused Pro of a crime
that he’d never do.
As a firing squad shot him,
Pro forgave his killers too.

These evil men took pictures
of Pro’s death by execution,
hoping to destroy the Church,
and the Catholic institution.

But Miguel’s heroic witness,
and his love for the Church
proved, “the blood of the martyrs
are the seeds of the Church”.
